A few late nights after work have resulted in visible progress on this painting. I intend to work mainly with a fall color palette throughout. I started with the top left corner and began to fill in what is essentially an underpainting. I will go back at some point and paint at least one more layer over most of this. However, there is much more ground to cover before that step.
My painting technique can be quite time consuming and laborious and I often listen to music and podcasts as I work ‘from the gut’. This allows me to take my mind away from each brushstroke and to work without too much conscious thought. I find that I am able to work a bit faster this way. One podcast that I enjoy a great deal is History on Fire. The two part series on Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, the unparalleled Italian painter from the late 1500’s was especially enthralling. I have been a devout fan of Caravaggio’s work for many years and I knew a bit of his life’s escapades but this wonderful podcast revealed so much more in dramatic fashion. What an intense (and ultimately doomed) life the man lead in addition to being a true master of the craft. A highly recommended listen for history and art buffs.
Life in Lafayette continues to be a joy and despite our hectic schedules. There have been trips to the small Acadiana towns surrounding the Hub City to sample cracklin, boudin and other smoked delights.
