Completion of this work is so close now that I can fairly taste it. I must say, the three of them together impresses me. It is an imposing thing to see them together as intended. You can’t avoid them in that way, it is impossible; they are there in your face and going for the jugular.

I have been engrossed in the work of late Acadiana artist Floyd Sonnier. His work is a bit ubiquitous in these parts and I’ve been familiar with him for decades. There is a wonderful book of his work released posthumously called From Small Bits of Charcoal filled with reproductions of his phenomenal pen and ink hatchwork drawings along with his folksy musings in both English and French. I’ve spent hours perusing these drawings, amazed at the detail his is able to achieve both perceived and actual with his technique. His work is imbued with the culture of this area. There is a local rice brand with a large image of one of his works on their bags. I’ve learned that he also designed the Evangeline Maid a local baker utilizes. And so, we get to enjoy this wonderful artist frequently here.
