The muse is fickle and she can depart on a whim in a puff of smoke just as quickly as she arrived. Thus the creative maelstrom is suddenly abated. One looks about a room at  pencil stubs, squashed paint tubes, sketches, works and even ideas of the mind unfinished. Everything loses it’s luster, brushes sit brittle and unwashed. Even still there is relief…the constant push to create has wained a bit and finally a deep breath can be taken.

And so it was for a couple of months but I am back in action. This smaller painting will be finished soon. The base coats are almost done and then on to  the glazes. My list of new painting ideas is also growing quickly.

I had the fortunate chance to catch the Vincent Van Gogh exhibit in Houston, TX at the Museum of Fine Art. I knew in advance that it would be a collection of what might be considered to be his lessor work. Still, I was disappointed to see but a flat facsimile of The Potato Eaters, my favorite of his works. Such brooding darkness and tenderness in the setting and characters. Blessed to have witnessed the original once at the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.
