Time to paint this Barred owl. There is a place that I like to camp along the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin, below Catahoula and just off of the Bayou Benoit Levee Road. If you tent camp as I do, you really become one with the swamp at this spot. The sounds to be heard in the middle of the night in the swamp are quite amazing. The owls seem to hoot just before dawn and with a little imagination, the Barred owl’s hoot sounds like “Who cooks for you, who cooks for ya’ll?” as it echoes through the treetops.
