I currently have a painting (Shades of Red) at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art as part of the 2017 Louisiana Contemporary presented by the Helis Foundation exhibit. This past weekend we attended both the artist’s reception and the official opening the following night as part of White Linen Night in New Orleans. There are some fantastic works in this exhibit and I was honored to be a part of it. You can check it out at the Ogden through October 15th, 2017.

In particular, I enjoyed the two works hung adjacent to mine by Lafayette artist Herb Roe. The detail and realism in his work is astounding and the Acadiana subject matter is close to my heart. I have followed his work with interest for a few years now. Artist Kristen Downing blew me away with her large acrylic depiction of the New Orleans Baby Dolls tradition. The expression she articulated on the main figure is fantastic. It is an epic piece and I was pleased to see it awarded First Place.

Travelling to the event from Lafayette (and arriving via the Westbank) we were largely unaware of the flooding happening in parts of New Orleans and especially Mid-City. Once the rain passed, we headed out to White Linen Night largely oblivious to the high waters. The crowd on Julia St. was quite impressive, all things considered.
